First Women in Marines' Infantry Officer Course

While women have served in the U. S. military for many decades and arguably in combat roles for many years in both Iraq and Afghanistan, so far women have not been officially schooled as infantry officers or assigned that military occupational specialty.  Recently, the Marine Corps embarked upon an experiment that may end that tradition and replace it with a new era of women trained, assigned and serving as infantry officers.
